IOSH Moving And Handling Of People – Train The Trainer​ (Recertification)​

To update and further develop the key training delivery skills and theoretical and practical knowledge on the moving and handling of inanimate loads and people to enable effective ‘in-company’ delivery. 

By the end of the course the learners will be able to: 

Module 1 

• Identify how the law can have an impact on safety and health in the workplace 
• List to whom nurses and associate care staff are professionally accountable 

Module 2 

• Describe the anatomy and physiology of the spine 
• Identify common causes of and measures to reduce the likelihood of suffering from back pain 

Module 3 

• Define the term ‘Risk Assessment’ and associated terminology 
• List the key reasons why risk assessment should be used 
• Identify the key pieces of legislation that outlines employees’ responsibilities in relation to risk assessment 
• Identify the essential areas of an activity to be considered when assessing manual handling risks in order to safeguard health and safety 
• Describe the practice of risk assessment 

Module 4 

• Describe the ‘base to face’ principles 
• List the considerations to be made prior to the lifting of a load 
• Demonstrate the application of the base to face principles 

Module 5 

• Identify factors that contribute to effective training 
• List the varying learning styles and learning factors to enable suitable adjustment of training style 
• Identify varying types of assessment of learning 
• Identify the purpose of evaluation 

Module 6 

• Identify a structured approach to practical people handling techniques 
• Identify what forms the basis of the fundamentals of any moving and handling technique 
• List the 4 key factors to be considered prior to undertaking any moving and handling technique 

Achievement of the objectives of the course will be assessed by: 

• Written Assessment Paper – 30 minutes 

• 20 questions in total / 40 marks / 60% pass mark 

• Range of question types: list, identify, define, describe – all based on each module outcomes. 
• Assessment undertaken under exam conditions and closed book 

Candidates will also be required to demonstrate a common moving and handling technique to the other attendees on the course. This is not formally assessed, rather its purpose is to act as a learning aid for the candidate and fellow attendees.
