NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Health & Safety

The 14 day NEBOSH National Construction Certificate is aimed at supervisors, managers and CDM coordinators within the construction industry that are required to ensure that activities under their control are undertaken safely.

It is likely to prove useful for those concerned with the management of buildings who may need to ensure that contractors are working safely.

The qualification is also appropriate for supervisors and managers working in other industries such as utilities, estate management and even broadcasting, where temporary workplaces are a feature of their activities.

Many larger construction organisations choose the NEBOSH National Construction Certificate as a key part of their supervisory or management development programme. By ensuring that line managers have a sound understanding of the principles of risk management, they build an effective safety culture in the company. Owners or managers of smaller construction companies will find this qualification helps them to meet the requirements of clients and principal contractors when working on other people’s premises or sites.

Successful completion of this course can equip an individual with the knowledge required to undertake the following duties ‘in-company’ without incurring the expense of bringing in an external health & safety consultant:

  • Completing Health & Safety focused Pre-Qualification Questionnaires (PPQ’s) when tendering for work.
  • Creating and managing elements of an organisations Health & Safety management system, such as:
  • Health & Safety Policies
  • Risk Assessments
  • Method Statement Etc
  • Undertaking Audits / Site Inspections

It covers a broad range of construction hazards and the means by which they can be controlled. It includes the main legal requirements relating to construction work and enables students to undertake effective safety inspections on a construction site. The content has been revised in line with the new Construction (Design and Management) Regulations.

The NEBOSH National Construction Certificate consists of three units; each separately assessed (enabling students to choose to take individual units in any order over a five year period).

  • GC1 Management of health and safety.

NEBOSH National Certificate in the Management of Health and Well-being at Work

This 5 day course is designed to provide the skills and knowledge to tackle health and wellbeing at work; achieving productivity gains, reducing absence and providing a better place to work. The syllabus emphasises practical management solutions to workplace health with reference made to clinical issues to enable managers to understand how these contribute to the prevention of ill-health and promote rehabilitation

Healthy workers can be almost three times more productive than their unhealthy colleagues. People who are unwell either don’t perform at their best, or they don’t turn up for work at all. On average, every worker in Britain takes over 7 days off annually because of illness. In the public sector the average is almost 10 days per year per employee. A correctly implemented health and well-being programme will help reduce absenteeism and staff turnover, leading to increased skill retention, and a reduction in training and recruitment costs. Employee physical and mental well-being will be protected and improved, increasing staff morale and leading to increased productivity. The cost savings to the organisation can be significant.

The course is suitable for General Managers, Supervisors, HR Managers, and Safety Professionals (rather than Occupational Health Practitioners), who have responsibility for, or involvement in, the health and well-being of employees as part of their day-to-day duties.
