COSHH Awareness

This course is aimed at those who use substances hazardous to health at work. The content introduces participants to the hazards associated with those substances, the risks and controls available. 

On completion of the training, participants will be able to look carefully at their work activities and contribute to the safer use of hazardous substances in cooperation with their employer. 

 On successful completion of the course, you will be able to: 

• Define COSHH 
• Recognise the employers and employees’ duties concerning COSHH 
• Recall the consequences of non-compliance with statutory duties 
• Identify COSHH safety information within your workplace 
• Define hazards and risks concerning hazardous substances 
• List the different types of hazardous substances found in the workplace 
• Identify the effects hazardous substances can have on people and the environment 
• List the routes substances can enter the body 
• Identify how risk assessments prevent accidents and ill health from hazardous substances 
• Match the five steps to a risk assessment 
• Prioritise risk control or mitigation measures as per the ‘hierarchy of control’ when considering the risks associated with hazardous substances 
• Identify the different sources of information to refer to for the safe use of hazardous substances 
• Identify what you need to know in case of an adverse event related to hazardous substances
