This qualification is for all Learners seeking to raise their awareness of health and safety issues in the workplace. It is ideal for providing new starts with a foundation-level understanding of health & safety or developing it among existing employees.
This qualification aims to benefit learners by developing their health and safety awareness. Learners will have the opportunity to build an understanding of health and safety in the workplace and the role that everyone plays in maintaining a safe working environment.
On successful completion of this qualification, learners will:
- Understand roles and responsibilities for health, safety and welfare in the workplace;
- Understand how risk assessments contribute to health and safety;
- Understand how to identify and control the risks from common workplace hazards; &
- Know the procedures for responding to accidents and incidents in the workplace.
- Employers’ and employees’ duties relating to health, safety and welfare at work
- Consequences for non-compliance with health and safety legislation
- Requirements for training and competence in the workplace
- Ways in which to communicate health and safety information
- The definitions of ‘hazard’ and ‘risk’
- The process for carrying out a risk assessment How risk assessment can be used to reduce accidents and ill health at work
- Hazards that may be found in a range of workplaces
- How hazards can cause harm or damage to people, work processes, the workplace and the environment
- The principle of the risk control hierarchy
- Risk controls for common workplace hazards
- Common causes of workplace accidents and ill health
- Actions that might need to be taken following an incident in the workplace
- The arrangements that should be in place in a workplace for emergencies and first aid
- Why it is essential to record all incidents, accidents and ill health
The qualification is assessed through a multiple-choice question paper taken under ‘examination’ conditions.
- The maximum time allowed is 45 minutes.
- The minimum mark is 20 out of 30.
Upon successfully completing this course, delegates will be provided with a certificate valid for three years.
