This course has been specifically designed for all employees to help raise their awareness of the risks associated with unsafe manual handling practices. It is ideal for those who might have to carry out manual handling as part of their job role.
This course aims to benefit Learners through developing their understanding of the principles of safe manual handling so they can apply what they have learned to their working environment and make their practices safer.
On successful completion of this qualification, learners will:
- Understand the importance of safe manual handling
- Know how manual handling risk assessments contribute to improving health and safety
- Understand the principles, types of equipment and testing requirements associated with manual handling safety
- The potential injuries and ill health associated with incorrect manual handling
- Employer’s and employee’s duties relating to manual handling at work
- The consequences for noncompliance with health and safety requirements at work
- The definitions of ‘hazard’ and ‘risk’ in the context of manual handling work
- The process for carrying out a manual handling risk assessment
- The principle of the risk control hierarchy when applied to manual handling
- Safe movement principles associated with manual handling
- The types of equipment designed to be used for manual handling tasks
- The requirements for the testing, servicing and examination of manual handling and lifting equipment
- Practical application (if delivered in a ‘face to face’ classroom-based environment)
The qualification is assessed through a multiple-choice question paper which is taken under ‘examination’ conditions.
On successful completion of this course, delegates will be provided with a certificate that is valid for 3 years. Annual or more frequent updates may be appropriate based on the level of manual handling related risks within the said workplace.

This course aims to provide learners with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed to safeguard themselves from the risks of associated with basic manual handling operations in the workplace.
By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
