Did you know that all workplace first aiders must complete requalification training every three years s to continue carrying out their role?
The QA Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF) Requalifying Course is specifically designed to allow first aiders to renew their first aid at work qualification when their certificate is due to expire.
During this two-day course, candidates can practise essential first-aid procedures and learn the latest techniques for dealing with emergencies and managing injuries and illnesses in the workplace.
What’s more, as a regulated qualification, employers can book this course for their employees and be assured that they have fulfilled their legal responsibilities for providing quality first aid training without undertaking lengthy due diligence checks.
The objective of the qualification is to benefit Learners by enabling them to update their knowledge and practical competencies required to deal with a range of first aid situations to allow learners to continue with their role of being a Qualified First Aider in the workplace.
Additional Information
Additional Modules relevant to various workplaces which Health Matters can deliver include the following:
- Oxygen Administration
- Use of an Automated External Defibrillator
- Anaphylaxis and the Use of an Auto-Injector
- Basic Life support for Adults and Children
- Management of Catastrophic Bleeding
The European Resuscitation Council now recommends that haemostatic dressings and tourniquets be used in catastrophic bleeding when direct pressure does not control blood loss.
An optional and additional module on Catastrophic Bleeding can be added to any Health Matters First Aid at Work courses (extra 30 minutes) where the workplace Health and Safety Assessment shows a risk of catastrophic bleeding. This short module can be covered at no additional cost, and our training team will be happy to discuss and help you with your needs assessment.
This module would be particularly relevant but not exclusive to the following industries:
- Waste and Recycling plant
- Construction
- Oil and Gas
- Military and Public Defence
- Forestry
- The role and responsibilities of a first aider
- Assessing an incident
- Managing an unresponsive casualty
- CPR and defibrillation

- Anaphylaxis
- Shock
- Head and spinal injuries

The assessment is in the form of six practical and two theory assessments (Multiple Choice Question Papers). Also, continuous formative assessments will be conducted throughout the course.
On completion of training and if successful in all components of assessment (including written and practical examinations), each student will be issued with a certificate of competency regarding their ability to deal safely and effectively with first aid emergencies in the workplace.
Expired FAAW Certificates
First aid At Work requalification courses is only 12 hours in duration, compared to 18 hours for the initial period. This means that the syllabus is covered at a significantly faster pace in the understanding that learners are familiar with the topics.
Suppose the learner’s previous First Aid at Work certificate has expired by more than 28 days at the start of a First aid At Work requalification course. In that case, HSE guidance is evident in that the individual would no longer be considered competent as a first aider in the workplace and must complete a three-day course.
For these reasons, all employers must make every effort to requalify the first aider before their certificate expires.
