The programme outline has been developed to encompass the most up to date legislation also policy and procedures in relation to Adult Safeguarding in Northern Ireland. It also considers the need to ensure staff attending understand the theory base of adult learning and are able to demonstrate that they can apply what they have learned through an assessed presentation at the end of the course.

This 5 day IOSH approved ‘Client Handling Training for Trainers’ course is intended for healthcare staff who wish to hold an approved course and to have the necessary skills and knowledge to carry out their own ‘in – house’ client handling training.
Our training is relevant for experienced healthcare professionals such as nurses, physiotherapists and occupational therapists and also suitably qualified and experienced senior care staff working in various healthcare settings including nursing homes, residential care and housing associations.
The course aims to train experienced and appropriately qualified healthcare staff in instructional skills and the theoretical and practical aspects of manual handling of loads and clients to the standard required by the Manual Handling Operations Regulations (1992) and the Safety Health & Welfare at Work Act 2005 (ROI) to enable them to carry out in-house training within their respective organisations.
Assessment will be carried out by Health Matters (Health & Safety) Ltd and moderated by IOSH. Achievement of the objectives of the course will be assessed by:
An IOSH Client Handling – Training the Trainer New Key Worker certificate is awarded to all who attend the course and successfully complete the written and practical assessments.
To ensure that guidance from the Royal College of Nursing, the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and the Nation Back Exchange Standards in Manual Handling, Third Edition, 2010 are adhered to, we advise all trainers attend 1 day update training on an annual basis plus reassessment by IOSH every third year, or we may be unable to reissue to them a certificate.
All employers are to ensure each delegate has access to the Guide to the Handling of People 6th Edition as a training aid for continuous reference throughout their period as a trainer. We can arrange to have this publication available to trainees at an additional cost.
This 1 day training programme is a mandatory refresher / update course for the full IOSH ‘Training for Trainers’ Client Handling course and must be completed within 3 years.
The course aims to update and further develop participants’ knowledge and practical skills in relation to teaching and instructing others in the safe moving and handling of clients/residents and inanimate loads within the care sector.
This 3 day training programme is appropriate for staff working within a diverse range of sectors which include construction, manufacturing, engineering, healthcare sector (where no client handling is required) offices, retail and all public sectors.
The course aims to train senior staff in instructional skills and the theoretical and practical aspects of manual handling of loads to the standard required by the Manual Handling Operations Regulations (1992) and the Safety, Health & Welfare Act 2005 (ROI). This training in turn will equip suitably experienced and skilled individuals to have the knowledge and training techniques required to carry out in-house training within their respective organisations.
An IOSH Approved Load Handling – Training the Trainer certificate is awarded to all who attend the course, successfully complete, and meet the required marks in both the written and practical assessments.
